An automated way to keep your monitor settings optimised

Today marks the Summer Solstice, also known as the longest (and possibly sunniest) day of the year. Are the display settings on your computer monitor ready?

F.lux, is an application that automatically adjusts the colour and brightness settings on your monitor, depending on the time of day.

After downloading and launching the app, it will ask you for your location and the type of lighting that’s in the room — tungsten, halogen, fluorescent or daylight. Based on the information, it calculates exactly when the sun sets in your area and adjusts the colour temperature of your screen to mimic the lighting in the room.

The utility is free and is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. And no worries for designers and photographers, the program can be temporarily disabled from the system whenever you need to have colours displayed accurately.

...in order to celebrate over 10,000 apps in the App Store, TapTapTap has created a mosaic of an iPhone loaded up with apps- out of the icons of App Store apps.

Make calls for free from your iPod Touch

You can now make calls for free from your iPod Touch via a new application, Truphone.

Truphone's VOIP software comes into its own on Apple's wi-fi beastie.

I've downloaded it, it's easy to install and the call quality is great.

TouchType makes iPhone email better with landscape mode

For whatever reason, Apple decided not to allow “landscape mode” on iPhone email. If you want to turn the phone when the web browser is open and get the larger keyboard that makes two thumb typing realistic, no problem. But the email app is portrait only.

Now a new iPhone application called TouchType fixes the problem. When you open the application you get a landscape mode keypad. type an email, press the send button and it goes through the Mail application for dispatch
